Story Behind the name.
The name comes from a school nickname of 'Martyni', from my name 'Martyn',
I then made my online idenity 'Martyni Productions' in such places as YouTube.
Then in the early days of irc, I decided that my nickname was too long, so I then
shortend it to 'MartyniP' which is what it is today.
Early Internet life.
I first got into tech in 2006, when I setup my first YouTube account, which I then
created video tutorials about various things such as how to's on adobe products and also some
videos on coding, but mainly things like VB.
Early IRC Life.
The first network I was on irc on, was wyldryde.org, in early 2007, which I
was mainly in such channels as Chris Pirillo's and other similar tech related channels.
WyldRyde to GeekShed Move.
At first, I did not move over to Geekshed when it branched off from WyldRyde,
but I then did after a few weeks of watching lots of people I knew moving over to GeekShed.
I continued to stay and talk in channels such as Chris Pirillo's and similar tech channels.
My First Channel
The first channel I registered on Geekshed was #martyni, which is still what I use today,
which has also moved onto other networks, such as my own, Technoid-IRC.
Soon after creating my own channel I started streaming on Ustream.tv and Livestream.com.
While looking for better ways to have PiP (Picture in Picture) for my steam,
I found jakewright's YouTube channel, and then discovered that his irc channel was also on Geekshed,
I then started being a lot more active there, rather than Chris'.
Life in #jake
After a few weeks of being in #jake on Geekshed, I was given voice as I was active every day,
and was often on the topic of coding. I then started making new friends on Geekshed, such as
great friends Haydn, techiegeek, Jackster35, edgy. Which I met Haydn and techiegeek in #jake,
and Jackster35 and edgy in Haydn's channel.
First IRC Networks
Both of the 2 IRC networks I and friends created have now closed, Technical-IRC,
which closed down due to having no servers, and then JangoIRC, which has now merged with WindFyre,
which I did host a server for, but I can no longer get another IP address for it.
Technical-IRC was owned by me and Kyle-Morgan, and had a few opers which I do not remember
the full list of. JangoIRC was owned by ComputerCoderGuy, and was staffed by me,
Jackster35, DarkGamer and some other people, which I can also not remeber.
It then merge with WindFyre, giving JangoTech's Server to WindFyre,
which I then bought a server off of Switchlink for WindFyre, which I then got
another IP for Technoid-IRC.
Sites and More coding
Throughout my life on the internet I have been coding in various
languages, which I was most strong in PHP and HTML, which is where I then got into web design
so I could design my own websites. I then got better at the designing stage, and then
decided to sell custom designing to people who wanted it. (Which I still do, check on the 'Jobs' page).
Creating Technoid-IRC
Me and Jackster35 created Technoid-IRC on the 3rd of October 2010,
I then bought the domain the next day Technoid-IRC.net. We had Mine and His servers,
which Jack hosted the services, and I hosted the site. Me and Jack decided to make Kyle-Morgan co-owner with us,
which we then had to remove him due to his inactivity, which I then later decided to invite him back into the team.
Jack then got Kieran, who was his friend, to host a server for us, he then became staff with his server.
We then asked edgy to join as a staff. And that was all within the first few weeks of Technoid-IRC being created.
We then go therock247uk and Luke (EnglishGeek) to join as staff aswell, Luke brought his SwitchLink
VPS with him to create Toshiba.
Happenings in 2011
This section will be long, I guessed for that once I started writing, and had a large chunk only describing the first few months.
Most of the sections will be separated by the time the occurred, but some events happened over long periods, and hence will not
have a specific time region.
First few months (Generally regarding Minecraft)
I'm currently writing this as of December, and generally updating the about page by writing about the last year of my life online.
First off, early in the year I spent lots of time chatting to many of my friends on IRC, and also surprisingly Minecraft,
after me adopting it late October 2010, with the coming and going of many different Minecraft server, I followed my friends onto various
servers, with the most memorable being Tim Roden's. His was the first server I went on when I first got the game, and I spent countless
hours there with both British and American friends (and Canadians). After for what ever reason of his server dieing the first time round,
(as of since I was there), from what I recall, we moved to the Duncsweb server, and again, spent numerous hours there, building all sorts.
I then left due to my opinion of the server, when Duncan, against a few people's opinions, including my own, brought along, as I see,
the stupid money and economy mods, which I see as ruining the game, especially the first one he used where you could not use specific
things unless you 'leveled up'. Also over the long term Duncan's server repeatedly reset the server map, annoying many people.
This event for some unknown reason for me was the reason set the end of playing huge amounts of Minecraft online. As I'm sure you gathered
I played a lot online, basically from when I got home, and finished watching YouTube videos, to when I went to bed, which sometimes could be
2, 3am the next day. (Ahhh, the good old days). The time leading up to the 'end' of online Minecraft for me was a semi-bad experience, clouded
by what seemed like a spike in newbs and trolls, strange how those two come together (And not the type of newb who wants to learn, the type which
is a general arsehole).
Early summer
Early summer, after the events and experiences of Minecraft I spent lots of time, still socializing on IRC, while coding, on various projects,
such as, as an example, Web Tracking, (Which by the way I keep promising myself I
will finish and iron out the bugs). I also spent the beginning of summer enjoying the wonders of 'Single' (basically one user of a server, to get
better mods), player minecraft, where I made all sorts of mindless stuff, from boats to airships to the whole airport, and yes, the airport took
a long time. I also kept playing in beta 1.7.3, in my opinion the best update yet, purely as I couldn't be bothered to go through the 'fun' of
reinstalling new mods, especially as I couldn't remember all of the ones I had installed into 1.7.3.
In the family holiday I had in June/July time, I had a very enjoyable time as a photographer, and took just under 800 pictures in 1 week.
This also brings up yet another project, my photography site. I have not updated it in a long time, but I mean to. I have had plans from
early developments of the site to sell the pictures to anyone who wants them, as copyright free pictures, but again, another project and
idea not done. (If you're not seeing a trend yet, your might want to stop reading...)
Further into Summer
Later in the summer holiday, as well as doing endless amounts of coursework, I also spent at least a week off and on making the new theme
for this site, which I do like, and did enjoy making. I also spent time here and there playing around with my camera, getting all sorts of
summery pictures of all sorts, from my dog to just random things locally.
Apart from those few things, over the summer, I did very little, I spent lots of time sat reading people's conversations on IRC, sorta stalking,
as I never actually got round to precipitating most of the time.
Back to the fun
Going back to school is always fun, and even more so when it reminds you how much coursework you should've done, and how much you've done.
Generally the gap here is bad... I spent many of the weekends following it, even still upto now, catching up on things I'm behind on, such as
Graphics, but not so much Electronics now that we've finished the first piece and are now starting the second piece. The start of coursework,
when you actually have the energy and motivation to want to do it! Currently with Graphics I have gotten totally bored with it.
October Holiday
It's a tradition that we go on holiday with another family who we are friendly with, helpfully the man in that house also finds a large amount
of joy in amateur photography, so often we go off together taking endless reams of photos. I took, again over a week, just over 900 photos,
and although the holiday was very different, as we weren't sat indoors all day as my sister was moaning about there not being as much sun as she
would like, and getting out of bed half way though the day, which we don't have the problem of when we go away in October as she is at uni.
We also had the experience of taking our dog on holiday with us, the first time we have ever done such a thing, as we normally have her sent to a
friends of ours who look after her while we're away.
Winter
Coming soon, once I know whether it will actually snow this winter... I dought it... if it does it'll be after christmas... NEVER ON CHRISTMAS,
Nor my birthday, the 26th!!! :)
